Aims and Scope


Rahpooye Memari-o Shahrsazi Journal approaches to publish research about the past, present, and future of "architecture and urban development" based on "Islamic culture and thought" in Iran and the world to develop strategies for updating, efficiency, localization, and Islamization of architecture and urban planning in Iran.
This quarterly journal aims to publish theoretical research findings and practical experiences in architecture and urban planning. The word Rahpooye means to create an original architecture and urban planning research path with Islamic-Iranian identity, based on the necessities of the era, along with the developments and world progress, and with an emphasis on looking to the future. This research trajectory is based on the "past, present, futuristic, and futurizing" view of architecture and urban planning and aims to provide strategies for bringing together originality and dynamism. The manuscript accepted in this journal includes theoretical and practical research in examining the issues and challenges of this path from the perspective of the architect, building, users and audience, institutions, and the executive and legislative system.


Specific objectives of the journal include:

  • Describing the Islamic architecture according to the futuristic view and what it should be;
  • Recognition of the physical-identity values and cultural heritage of Islamic architecture in Iran and the world
  • Development of research in architecture and planning based on principles and values of Islamic-Iranian architecture and urbanism and the developmentoriented view of architecture and urban planning of Iran today;
  • Publication and development of influential research in:
        1. Developing and improving the quality of Architecture and Urban Education,
        2. Revival of the lost values of the past,
        3. Strengthening the identity and culture of Islamic-Iranian architecture and urban planning;
  • Establishing a suitable platform for scientific communication and exchange of ideas between researchers, university professors, and students of architecture and urban planning on both national and international scales
    To align the research with the country's priorities.
  • Offering strategies that address the country's current challenges in architecture and urban development, particularly in housing.


The journal accepts articles with the following approaches:

Theoretical foundations and studies (based on interdisciplinary view between humanities, art, architecture, and urban planning), Theory Development (theorizing, criticisms, developing and teaching, theory extension, theory testing, and practical application), Historical studies (survey of original and valuable examples that offer valuable insights and lessons for contemporary issues), Case studies (demonstrating the application of theory and methods in architectural and urban planning/design), and Action research (focused on education and practical experiences).
